Praia do Norte is a beach, located in Nazaré, internationally known for its giant waves. It is under the influence of the Nazaré Canyon which allows the creation of waves with an unusual size. It was in the Praia do Norte waves that Garrett McNamara broke the world record for the biggest surfing wave of the Guinness World Record with 23.77 meters. In 2017, Rodrigo Koxa set a new world record, with a wave of 24.38m / 80ft also surfed at Praia do Norte.
